Bruce Campbell, the beloved star of the Evil Dead franchise, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer. The actor shared the news in a candid statement posted on X, explaining that while the diagnosis came as a shock, he is determined to face treatment head-on.
Campbell did not disclose the specific type of cancer but described it as “treatable, not curable.” He emphasized that his priority now is focusing on his health, which means stepping back from professional commitments.
In his message, Campbell wrote: “Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that, I’m having one of those. It’s also called a type of cancer that is ‘treatable’ not ‘curable.’”
He explained that upcoming appearances and projects will be canceled as he undergoes treatment. “Big regrets on my part,” he noted, acknowledging the difficulty of balancing medical needs with professional obligations.
Despite the setback, Campbell expressed optimism about returning to work later this year. His goal is to recover enough over the summer to tour with his new movie Ernie & Emma in the fall. The actor stressed that he was not sharing the news to seek sympathy but to ensure fans heard the truth directly from him. “Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-b**ch, and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while,” he wrote.
Campbell, best known for his role as Ash Williams in Evil Dead, has built a loyal fan base over decades. His humor, resilience, and openness have made him a cult icon in horror and pop culture. Fans across social media have already begun sending messages of encouragement, praising his strength and wishing him well during treatment. Campbell closed his announcement with gratitude: “As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world, and I hope to see you soon!”
