Fastest Ball in Cricket? Mohammed Siraj’s 181.6 kmph Delivery Creates a Stir

The second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, being played at Adelaide Oval from December 6, has captured significant attention. Following India’s commanding 295-run victory in the first Test at Perth, both teams are now battling it out in the Pink Ball Test.

Mitchell Starc Dominates While Indian Bowlers Struggle

In the first innings, Indian batsmen struggled against Australia’s bowlers, particularly Mitchell Starc, who wreaked havoc with his fiery spells. Conversely, Indian bowlers found it challenging to secure wickets in the second innings. Jasprit Bumrah managed to claim the sole wicket, while both Harshit Rana and Mohammad Siraj went wicketless. However, Siraj became the center of attention on social media, not for his bowling figures, but for one extraordinary delivery.

A Delivery at 181.6 kmph?

During Australia’s 25th over of the innings, Siraj bowled a ball that was clocked at an astonishing 181.6 kilometers per hour. This was during Siraj’s 10th over, and the speed displayed on the screen immediately caught viewers’ attention. The viral clip sparked discussions, with fans and experts questioning the accuracy of the reading.

A Speed Gun Malfunction to Blame

To date, no bowler in cricket history has officially crossed the 162 kmph mark. A delivery at 181.6 kmph is beyond the realm of possibility. It is highly likely that a malfunction in the speed gun caused the incorrect reading. Such technical glitches have occurred before in cricket matches and often lead to amusing debates.

While Siraj’s delivery may not have rewritten the record books, it certainly added an intriguing moment to the Adelaide Test.
