Jamal Roberts, winner of American Idol Season 23, has officially earned a 2026 Grammy nomination in the Best Gospel Performance/Song category. The nomination recognizes his collaboration with Jonathan McReynolds on their acclaimed gospel single “Still.” The announcement arrived just one day after Roberts celebrated his 28th birthday.
The Recording Academy confirmed that the 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony will take place on February 1 in Los Angeles, where Roberts could make history as one of the few Idol alumni to reach this milestone.
The nominated song, “Still,” was recorded live during a July concert in Chicago, where McReynolds invited Roberts to perform the gospel ballad on stage. The performance was later featured on McReynolds’ September album, “Closer.”
Footage from the concert shows Roberts’ emotionally charged vocals and dynamic stage presence, ending with what McReynolds humorously called a “Pentecostal exit.” The track quickly gained traction within the gospel community, praised for its authenticity and spiritual depth.

Music analysts have noted that Roberts’ transition from reality TV to recognized gospel artist marks a significant career evolution. Industry insiders credit his powerful stage voice and raw emotional style as key factors behind the nomination.
With this nomination, Jamal Roberts becomes only the sixth “American Idol” winner to earn a Grammy nod — joining Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia, and Jordin Sparks. Clarkson remains the first Idol winner to both be nominated and win, securing two Grammys in 2006.
This recognition cements Roberts’ place among some of the most successful alumni of the franchise, reflecting his rapid ascent from televised talent show to music’s highest honor.
