The holiday music scene is getting a major spark of festive cheer as Lady A returns with their brand-new Christmas project, “On This Winter’s Night (Volume 2).” The release arrives 13 years after their first holiday album and marks an emotional reunion with the seasonal sound that helped cement their popularity in the genre. The trio—Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and Dave Haywood—described the album as a celebration of family, faith, tradition, and joy, reflecting their personal and musical growth since the release of Volume 1.
Recorded in an intimate setting filled with warm lights and holiday décor, the group previewed the album with a stirring performance of “Silent Night.” Their harmonies, powerful yet tender, transported listeners into the heart of Christmas. Kelley acknowledged the success of their original holiday album, which went platinum, inspiring them to create a new chapter that would continue to shape family traditions each year.
To complement the release, Lady A will launch the “This Winter’s Night Tour” beginning December 5 in Atlanta, followed by multiple stops across major U.S. cities. The tour will end with a special three-night homecoming run in Nashville, adding emotional significance for the band and fans alike.
While preparing the setlist, the trio realized that expanding their Christmas music catalog was essential—an idea that ultimately led to the creation of Volume 2. Fans attending the tour can expect a blend of beloved holiday classics such as “Winter Wonderland,” “Last Christmas,” “O Holy Night,” and new original songs written to evoke the warmth and nostalgia of family gatherings.
Since the release of their first holiday album, Lady A’s personal lives have evolved dramatically. The trio now shares nine children, including two newborns, which Scott says has reshaped how they view the holiday season. Family rituals have become central to their celebrations, including reading biblical scripture about the birth of Jesus—a practice that inspired songs like “Why We Sing Noel” featuring Ricky Skaggs.
Scott recalled writing music through a spiritual lens while pregnant with her daughter, an experience that strengthened the emotional themes of the album. Kelley shared a personal anecdote about initially misunderstanding the meaning of the word “Noel,” but embracing the deeper message behind it. A collaboration with Chris Tomlin on “Silent Night” further reinforces the spiritual foundation of the project, blending sacred verses with classic melodies.
Lady A revealed that their children will join them on tour, with the possibility of little guest appearances during shows. Despite the busy schedule, the trio plans to return home for Christmas Eve traditions including reading scripture and enjoying a Tex-Mex dinner.
Kelley emphasized the importance of crafting a show that feels welcoming to all generations—from toddlers to grandparents—balancing lively moments with heartfelt storytelling.
As Lady A prepares to take the stage, they invite fans to celebrate the season with music, unity, and heartfelt emotion. The group describes the journey as “a fusion of family, faith, and joyful chaos,” capturing the essence of Christmas in every note.
