YouTube superstar MrBeast, whose real name is James Stephen Donaldson, is known worldwide for his jaw-dropping stunts, philanthropic giveaways, and record-breaking videos. But while he has conquered the digital space, his biggest challenge yet might be fatherhood. As he prepares for his upcoming wedding to fiancée Thea Booysen, fans are curious about his family plans. Surprisingly, the social media mogul has been candid about his hesitation to embrace parenthood.
Speaking on Dear Media’s Good Guys podcast, MrBeast revealed that he doesn’t want to have children unless he can be a “phenomenal father.” He explained that being average at something is not an option for him, and parenting is no exception. “I don’t want to have a kid unless I’m a phenomenal father,” he said firmly. For MrBeast, raising children requires immense sacrifice. He pushed back against the idea that kids automatically make someone more successful, noting that true parenting often means prioritizing family over career. “Kids make you more successful — I hate when people say that kind of stuff, because, I agree, it’s a sacrifice when you’re actually a good father,” he explained.
The YouTuber emphasized that success in parenting and success in career are two different worlds. He observed that many high achievers sacrifice professional growth to be present for their children. “Very few people that I meet that are successful and have kids end up regretting it. They’re almost always like, ‘Yeah, I’m less successful, but I don’t care,’” he noted. This perspective highlights MrBeast’s thoughtful approach to life decisions. While he thrives on pushing boundaries in his career, he is unwilling to take on fatherhood unless he can give it his full commitment.
Despite his hesitation about children, MrBeast’s relationship with Thea Booysen remains strong. The couple got engaged on Christmas Day in 2024, and Booysen has described their bond as already feeling like marriage. Speaking to PEOPLE, she said that tying the knot was “just another step in the process.” The pair have even discussed what their lives will look like decades from now, imagining their future together at age 70. While the wedding is seen as a formality, the decision about children remains a deeply personal one for MrBeast.
Ultimately, MrBeast is focused on building a legacy — both online and at home. His hesitation to rush into parenthood reflects the same high standards he applies to his career. For now, he remains committed to his fiancée, his work, and his fans, leaving the question of children open until he feels ready to give it 100 percent.
