Actress Sydney Sweeney has revealed the intense physical transformation she underwent for her upcoming boxing film Christy. Speaking to People magazine this week, the 28-year-old star opened up about gaining and then losing 30 pounds for the role. The transformation, which took place over several months, showcased her dedication to authenticity and discipline.
Sweeney described the journey as “really strict” and physically demanding, emphasizing both the mental and physical challenges involved in preparing for the part.
During the interview, Sydney Sweeney explained that she first gained significant weight to portray a professional boxer. Her training included high-intensity workouts, multiple daily meals, and heavy supplementation with protein shakes and creatine.
The process led to rapid muscle gain but also bloating — a necessary part of building mass for the role. Once filming concluded, Sweeney reversed her diet and halted supplementation, triggering an equally rapid 30-pound weight loss in less than two months.
“The biggest challenge was staying disciplined,” Sweeney told People. “You have to be really strict with yourself — it’s not easy mentally or physically.”
Industry observers have praised the actress’s commitment, comparing her dedication to that of athletes preparing for professional competition.
Fitness coaches note that her transformation highlights both the potential and the risks of extreme body changes for performance-based roles.
According to Sweeney, her post-filming process was grounded in physiological science. When she stopped her high-calorie intake and intense workouts, muscle mass decreased first, leading to quick initial weight loss. Within just two weeks, she shed a substantial portion of the gained weight, completing the full transformation in under two months.
This mirrors how professional fighters often experience “cutting” phases before competitions, though Sweeney clarified her process was medically supervised.
Sweeney’s next project, Christy, is set to bring a raw portrayal of athletic endurance and emotional struggle to audiences. With her physical preparation complete, the film is now in post-production, and early buzz suggests a powerful performance.
The Euphoria and Anyone But You star continues to balance blockbuster roles with character-driven projects, solidifying her status as one of Hollywood’s most versatile actors.
