Actress Tara Reid says she intends to pursue legal action after filing a police report alleging she was drugged at a Chicago-area hotel and regained consciousness in a hospital with no memory of what occurred. The American Pie star, 50, detailed the incident in a report submitted to the Rosemont Police Department, which confirmed it is actively investigating.
Reid was in Illinois for a celebrity signing event and staying at the DoubleTree Hotel in Rosemont on Sunday, Nov. 23. According to the police report obtained by PEOPLE, Reid said she “completely blacked out” after having a drink with a man she met in the hotel lobby who identified himself as “Sean P,” described as a YouTuber and influencer.
The actress said there were “a bunch of people in the lobby that were supposedly YouTubers,” many with their phones recording. Reid ordered a glass of white wine at the hotel bar and said the man approached her to introduce himself. The two then went outside to smoke and later exchanged phone numbers.
Upon returning to the bar, Reid alleges she noticed “a napkin over my drink.”
She told police the last thing she remembers was drinking from the glass.
“The next thing I remember was waking up in the hospital around eight hours or more later not knowing where I was,” she wrote.
Authorities arrived at approximately 12:39 a.m., and video obtained by TMZ shows Reid unable to support her weight as a man holds her upright. Others nearby appear distressed, attempting to move her into a wheelchair. In the footage, Reid slurs her speech and eventually collapses forward while seated.
Reid’s agent located the hospital where she was taken and later returned with her to collect her belongings before she flew home to Los Angeles.
According to her police statement, the man she met later texted her footage of the incident, which she interpreted as an attempt at exploitation.
She claimed he implied he could stop the videos from spreading, even confirming to her that she had only consumed one drink.
Reid said she initially struggled to file a police report remotely. She eventually submitted one online on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
In a statement to PEOPLE, the Rosemont Public Safety Department said it is taking the allegations seriously.
“We are committed to investigating this incident fully,” the department said. “We are in communication with the hotel to gather as much video surveillance as possible.”
The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information has been released.
Reid emphasized she is ready to move forward legally:
“I am willing to prosecute,” she wrote in her statement.
