The first full trailer for Hokum, Adam Scott’s upcoming supernatural horror film, has arrived — and it looks terrifying.
A Haunting Story
Written and directed by Irish filmmaker Damian McCarthy, Hokum follows an author who travels to a remote part of Ireland to spread his parents’ ashes. What begins as a somber journey quickly spirals into a nightmare, as Scott’s character encounters unspeakable evil lurking in the countryside. McCarthy, known for Oddity (2024) and Caveat (2020), has built a reputation for stripped-down but deeply unsettling horror. Like his earlier films, Hokum relies on atmosphere, sound, and disturbing imagery rather than traditional gore.
Neon’s Horror Legacy
The film is produced by Neon, the studio behind Longlegs, one of 2024’s most chilling releases. Neon has become known for its innovative horror marketing campaigns, and Hokum is no exception. Its teaser, released in December 2025, revealed little beyond eerie vibes, building anticipation through mystery.
Recurring Imagery and Shared Universe Hints
Fans have already spotted connections between Hokum and McCarthy’s earlier work. A rabbit-like creature glimpsed in the trailer recalls the rabbit doll from Caveat. A bell featured in Oddity also appears, raising speculation about a shared universe across McCarthy’s films. In Oddity, a bell summoned a ghoulish bellboy, and the trailer hints that similar supernatural forces may be at play in Hokum. Whether these are deliberate crossovers or recurring motifs remains to be seen.
Filming in Ireland
McCarthy shot Hokum on location in West Cork, continuing his tradition of using stark, isolated settings to heighten tension. His previous films were shot in a converted barn, though it’s unclear if the same location appears here.
Release Date
Hokum is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. With Adam Scott leading the cast and McCarthy’s proven ability to craft unsettling horror, the film is already one of the year’s most anticipated genre releases.
