Berlin Film Festival Unveils Competition Lineup for 76th Edition

Berlin Film Festival 76th edition lineup unveiled at Berlinale Palast.

The Berlin Film Festival has revealed the competition lineup for its 76th edition, marking the second year under artistic director Tricia Tuttle. The prestigious event, set to run from February 12–22, 2026, promises a diverse slate of international films and star-studded premieres.

Opening Film and Jury President

Afghan filmmaker Shahrbanoo Sadat’s romantic comedy No Good Men will open the festival. The German co-production is set inside a Kabul newsroom during Afghanistan’s democratic era before the Taliban’s return to power in 2021. Celebrated German director Wim Wenders will serve as jury president, succeeding Todd Haynes. His appointment underscores Berlinale’s commitment to blending established European voices with global perspectives.

International Emphasis

This year’s lineup highlights a strong international focus. Alongside Sadat’s film, audiences can expect premieres from acclaimed directors and rising talents. The Berlinale continues to position itself as a global hub for cinematic innovation, with Tuttle aiming to bring the festival closer in stature to Cannes.

Star Power in Panorama and Gala Sections

While last year’s edition featured appearances from Timothée Chalamet and Robert Pattinson, this year’s star power is expected to shine in Panorama and Special Gala screenings. Highlights include:

  • Charli XCX’s anticipated Brat mockumentary The Moment making its international debut.
  • Isabelle Huppert starring in the vampire drama The Blood Countess.
  • Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe headlining the historical drama The Weight.

These buzzy titles are expected to draw significant attention from both critics and audiences.

Tuttle’s Vision for Berlinale

Tricia Tuttle, a respected American film journalist and curator, took over from Carlo Chatrian in 2025. She has emphasized her goal of aligning Berlinale more closely with Cannes, focusing on international reach and artistic prestige. Her leadership has already brought fresh energy to the festival, with programming that balances daring new voices and established auteurs.

Looking Ahead

With the competition lineup now unveiled, anticipation builds for the February festival. As Berlinale continues to evolve under Tuttle’s direction, the 76th edition looks poised to deliver a blend of global storytelling, star-driven premieres, and thought-provoking cinema.
