Black Ops 7 Season 1 Adds Akimbo Shotguns — Unlock Method Explained

Player dual-wielding Akita Akimbo Shotguns in Black Ops 7 multiplayer match.

The much-requested Akimbo Shotgun setup has officially arrived in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Season 1, bringing a new layer of chaos to multiplayer and Warzone Resurgence. The newly added Akita Scorchlink Akimbo attachment allows players to dual-wield fully automatic shotguns, drastically increasing close-range lethality while maintaining a strategic risk-reward balance through the new overheating mechanic.

Fans have long requested an Akimbo option for shotguns, and this update finally answers that call. The attachment enables players to run two Akita shotguns simultaneously using a special Belt-Fed magazine, delivering devastating burst damage potential. However, prolonged use triggers weapon overheating, forcing players to engage with timing and positioning more carefully.

How to Unlock Akita Akimbo in Black Ops 7 Season 1

Players can unlock the Akita Scorchlink Akimbo attachment by completing all six Week 2 seasonal challenges, which begin on December 11. Similar to the progression structure from Modern Warfare III (2023), Black Ops 7 now features a rotating weekly challenge system that rewards unique weapons and attachments.

To earn the attachment, complete every objective across any available mode, including:

  • Campaign

  • Multiplayer

  • Warzone

  • Zombies

Once all challenges are finished, the Akimbo attachment will automatically become available to equip for the Akita shotgun. For players who miss the challenge window, the attachment will eventually return as an Armory unlock later in the season, ensuring nobody is permanently locked out.

How to Equip Akita Akimbo Shotguns

After unlocking the attachment, head to the Gunsmith menu, select the Magazine slot, and apply the Scorchlink Akimbo attachment. This will disable all other magazine types while active, preventing conflicting upgrades. From there, players can build aggressive run-and-gun loadouts ideal for tight corridors, small maps, and Resurgence-style engagements.

In the current meta, Akimbo shotguns stand out as a top-tier close-range choice, outperforming most SMGs and other shotguns in extreme close-quarters combat. However, the overheating mechanic means careless spraying is punished with downtime, pushing players to rotate intelligently rather than charging nonstop.

Community Reactions and Meta Impact

The early response from competitive and casual players has been overwhelmingly positive. Many Warzone content creators have showcased the weapon setup’s explosive potential, labeling it one of the fastest-time-to-kill tools in Season 1.

Still, some players argue the Akita already needed a nerf, claiming Akimbo makes it “too strong to counter without precision engagement.” Whether adjustments arrive in a future balance patch remains to be seen.

With new content continuing to roll out throughout Season 1, Call of Duty fans can expect more attachment unlocks, weapon tuning, and game-changing additions in the weeks ahead.
