Chelsea Handler is opening up about her disastrous experience after buying Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Cheryl Hines’ former Brentwood estate. The comedian revealed on her Dear Chelsea podcast that the property, purchased in 2021 for $5.9 million, was “the most toxic environment” she had ever encountered.
Structural Issues and “Cursed” Property
Handler said she has never lived in the home, even four years later, due to severe structural problems. Built in 1937, the five-bedroom estate reportedly had a faulty foundation and other hidden issues. “I’m not exaggerating any of this,” Handler explained. “It was a disaster, and I didn’t know it going in because everything was under wraps.”
Shocking Discoveries
During inspections, Handler claimed experts told her the house was unlivable for at least two years. She also alleged that RFK Jr. and Hines left behind an illegal outdoor storage unit on the property. “Now we have to remove his illegal bulls—t from my property,” she said, frustrated that it wasn’t flagged earlier.
A Note From Cheryl Hines
Handler added that after the sale, Hines left her a note offering help. “Let us know if there’s anything we can do for you, Chelsea,” the actress wrote. Handler quipped in response, “Yeah, how about a f—ing foundation?”
Political Context
Handler also criticized RFK Jr., who currently serves as U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, saying it was ironic that someone in charge of public health sold her a home with such unsafe conditions.
Moving Forward
Despite the ordeal, Handler insists she is “totally over it.” RFK Jr. and Hines have since purchased another home on the same street for $6.6 million. PEOPLE has reached out to their representatives for comment.
