Mother of Deadliest Catch Star Todd Meadows Pleads With Discovery Not to Air Death Footage

Angela Meadows, the mother of late Deadliest Catch star Todd Meadows, is urging Discovery Channel not to air any footage related to her son’s tragic death. Todd, 25, died on February 25 after falling overboard while crabbing in Alaska during filming for the long-running reality series.

Tragic Accident at Sea

The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed that Meadows fell overboard approximately 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor, near Unalaska. Crew members recovered him about 10 minutes later, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful. His captain, Rick Shelford, announced the heartbreaking news in a Facebook tribute on March 2.

Angela Meadows Speaks Out

On March 4, Angela told TMZ that the family does not want Discovery to air any footage of the accident. “We do not want Discovery to air any of that footage or make money off of our son’s death. We hope they only air good things of Todd on that boat,” she said.

She added that no parent should have to watch their child’s final moments broadcast to the world. Instead, she requested that Discovery provide the family with footage of Todd’s time on the boat so they can preserve positive memories.

Remembering Todd Meadows

Todd’s family has described him as a devoted father to his three young sons. A GoFundMe page created after his death highlights his dedication: “Everything he did was for them — their smiles, their futures, and the memories they will carry with them.”

His sister, Mackenzie, shared that the family’s grief is indescribable, while his father, Lucas, remembered Todd’s lifelong passion for fishing. Lucas recalled that Todd began fishing at age three and always had a smile on his face, regardless of the day’s challenges.

Legacy on Deadliest Catch

Deadliest Catch, which premiered in 2005, has documented the dangerous world of crab fishing for over two decades. Season 21 concluded in October 2025. Todd’s death occurred while filming for the next installment, raising questions about how the show will handle such sensitive material.

Coast Guard Investigation

The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed it is investigating the incident. Officials stated their mission is to uncover the causes of marine casualties and implement corrective actions to improve safety.

Family’s Wish

Angela Meadows emphasized that she wants Todd’s memory to remain positive. “His memory should be a good memory everywhere,” she said. The family hopes Discovery will honor that request by focusing on Todd’s love for fishing and his dedication to his children, rather than the tragedy itself.
