Rock legend Dee Snider has officially stepped down as frontman of Twisted Sister, citing ongoing health challenges. The announcement has forced the cancellation of the band’s highly anticipated 50th anniversary concerts, which were set to begin in April in São Paulo, Brazil.

In a statement shared by founding guitarists Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda, the band confirmed Snider’s resignation was “sudden and unexpected.” The message explained that Snider’s health struggles made it impossible for him to continue performing at the level fans expect. The group added that the future of Twisted Sister “will be determined in the next several weeks,” leaving fans uncertain about whether the band will continue without its iconic frontman.

Health Struggles Behind the Exit
Snider, 70, has battled degenerative arthritis for years, undergoing multiple surgeries to manage the condition. According to the band, he could only perform a few songs at a time due to pain. His heart has also been impacted by decades of touring and aggressive performing.
“A lifetime of legendarily aggressive performing has taken its toll on Dee Snider’s body and soul,” the band’s statement read. Snider himself admitted: “I don’t know of any other way to rock. The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. I’d rather walk away than be a shadow of my former self.”
Twisted Sister’s Legacy
Formed in the 1970s, Twisted Sister became one of the defining heavy metal acts of the 1980s. Their anthem “We’re Not Gonna Take It” reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984 and remains a cultural staple, often played at rallies and events.
