Essence has announced the honorees for its 2026 Black Women in Hollywood Awards, celebrating trailblazing talent and creative excellence. The annual event, now in its 19th year, will take place on March 12 at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, just days before the Academy Awards.
Honorees
This year’s honorees include actress Chase Infiniti, Emmy winner Kerry Washington, veteran performer LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and producer Zinzi Coogler. Each is recognized for their contributions to film, television, and culture.
- Chase Infiniti: Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Critics Choice nominee, honored for breakthrough performances and her rising influence as a new voice in Hollywood.
- Kerry Washington: Emmy-winning actress, producer, and director, celebrated for her work on screen and behind the camera, expanding opportunities for diverse storytellers.
- LaTanya Richardson Jackson: Tony- and NAACP Image Award-nominated actress, director, and philanthropist, recognized for her decades-long career and civic engagement.
- Zinzi Coogler: Golden Globe winner and Oscar-nominated producer, honored for her role in developing critically acclaimed multimedia projects through Proximity Media.
Luminary Spotlight
The Luminary Spotlight honor will go to the women behind Sinners, a film that has garnered multiple Oscar nominations. The team includes producer Zinai Coogler, cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapkaw, production designer Hannah Beachler, costume designer Ruth E. Carter, hair designer Shunika Terry-Jennings, and actresses Wunmi Mosaku and Jayme Lawson. All but Lawson are nominated at the 2026 Oscars, underscoring the film’s impact.
Theme and Celebration
The theme of this year’s gala is “Off Script,” reflecting how Black women continue to navigate and reshape the entertainment industry. The event has become a key marker of influence during awards season, spotlighting the achievements of Black women across creative disciplines. Fans will be able to watch the red carpet preshow live on Essence’s YouTube channel, featuring celebrity arrivals, interviews, and the presentation of the Essies’ Choice Award and Creators’ Award.
