Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez have revealed how they resolved a playful but relatable disagreement over their bedroom environment. Speaking on the Lost in Translation podcast, the couple shared how differences in nighttime routines led them to sleep separately for comfort.
A Temperature Divide
Gemma, 41, has embraced biohacking techniques to improve her sleep, including the use of a sauna blanket. While beneficial for her, the blanket raises the room temperature to around 26°C. In contrast, Gorka prefers cooler conditions, ideally between 18°C and 21°C, making the shared space uncomfortable for him.
During the podcast, Gorka humorously admitted his struggles, saying: “I’m a person who doesn’t like to sleep in a hot room.”
Finding a Solution
Gemma responded with lighthearted anecdotes about her nighttime gear, which includes a red light helmet and blue light-blocking glasses. Gorka joked that she looked like “a corpse on a slab.” Despite the banter, Gemma acknowledged his discomfort and suggested a compromise.
The couple decided that Gemma would conduct her biohacking practices in a spare room, allowing Gorka to sleep in cooler conditions. This arrangement ensures both can maintain their routines without conflict.
Relationship Background
Gemma and Gorka first met during Strictly Come Dancing in 2017, though they were not partnered together. Since then, they have built a family, welcoming two children: Mia (6) and Thiago (2).
Their story highlights the importance of communication and compromise in relationships, showing how even small disagreements can lead to meaningful solutions.
