Harbhajan Singh, who played under MS Dhoni’s captaincy during some of Indian cricket’s greatest moments, including the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs, revealed that he no longer communicates with Dhoni. Harbhajan also played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) under Dhoni’s leadership in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Harbhajan said,
“No, I don’t speak to Dhoni. I don’t have anything against him. If he has something to say, he can tell me. But if he did, he would have told me by now.”
The former India off-spinner, who has 417 wickets in 103 Tests, did not elaborate on the reasons behind the apparent disconnect but mentioned that their conversations during his CSK days were limited to on-field interactions.
“When I was playing at CSK, we spoke, but otherwise, we haven’t spoken. It’s been over 10 years. I have no reason; perhaps he does. I don’t know what the reasons are. During the IPL, we only talked on the ground. He didn’t come to my room, and I didn’t go to his,” said Harbhajan, who also took 269 wickets in 236 ODIs and 25 wickets in 25 T20Is.
Harbhajan also suggested that Dhoni does not respond to his calls. “I only call people who pick up my calls. I don’t have the time otherwise,” the 44-year-old said. “I stay in touch with the ones I am friends with. A relationship is always about give and take. If I respect you, I expect respect in return. If I call you once or twice and don’t get a response, I will only meet you when necessary.”
