Hayden Christensen Reveals Truth About Anakin’s Hair in Revenge of the Sith

Hayden Christensen reveals Anakin’s wig secret at Fan Expo New Orleans.

Hayden Christensen has made a surprising revelation about one of the most iconic looks in the Star Wars saga. Speaking at Fan Expo New Orleans on Jan. 9, the 44-year-old actor admitted that his flowing locks in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith weren’t entirely his own.

“Full disclosure: that’s not my real hair,” Christensen confessed, explaining that he kept one of the wigs used during filming. The admission drew laughter and applause from fans, who were delighted by the behind-the-scenes detail.

Collecting Star Wars Keepsakes

Christensen went on to share that he held onto more than just wigs from the set. He revealed he has “a couple of the little Padmé braids from Episode II,” referencing Natalie Portman’s character, Padmé Amidala. He teased that he also took home “a couple of other little knickknacks” but joked, “I probably shouldn’t talk about [that].” Despite his hesitation, Christensen admitted to owning “a couple of lightsabers” that may not have been intended for him to keep. He recalled a humorous story about smuggling one back to Canada while filming in Australia. “I packaged it up, and I shipped it as a didgeridoo,” he said. “I told them I bought a didgeridoo, [because] I wanted them to send it back to Canada for me.”

Hair and Continuity in Film

Wigs are a common tool in film production, used to maintain continuity and reduce time spent in hair and makeup. Christensen’s confession highlights the practical side of filmmaking, even in a galaxy far, far away. The Star Wars franchise has delivered some of cinema’s most memorable hairstyles. Carrie Fisher’s Princess Leia buns, affectionately dubbed “space buns,” were styled using her real hair. Fisher famously joked in 2015 that if she had ever spoiled the original trilogy, she would have been “sentenced to wear that awful hairstyle from the first film.”

A Convention Favorite

Christensen’s candid stories are part of what makes him a fan-favorite at conventions. Last summer, he reunited with Ewan McGregor at Fan Expo Chicago, where the pair staged a playful lightsaber duel to the delight of attendees. His willingness to share behind-the-scenes anecdotes continues to endear him to Star Wars fans worldwide.

Legacy of Anakin Skywalker

Christensen’s portrayal of Anakin Skywalker remains one of the most discussed performances in the franchise. From his tragic fall to the dark side to his transformation into Darth Vader, the character’s journey is central to the Star Wars mythos. His recent appearances in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka have reignited fan enthusiasm, proving that his connection to the galaxy far, far away is stronger than ever. By revealing the truth about Anakin’s hair and sharing stories of lightsaber smuggling, Christensen adds another layer of charm to his legacy. Fans may never look at Revenge of the Sith the same way again.
