Hunter McVey, 26, has landed a leading television role on 9-1-1: Nashville, marking an unconventional entry into Hollywood. The model and social media influencer, who previously worked in sales and marketing, will portray firefighter Blue Bennings in the new spin-off from 20th Television.
The casting, confirmed this week by The Hollywood Reporter, has sparked conversation across the industry. McVey was selected from nearly 1,000 auditioning actors — despite having no formal acting background.
Before his television debut, Hunter McVey built an online following through modeling and fitness content. He previously maintained an OnlyFans page for seven to eight months, describing it as a “stepping stone” that helped transform his career trajectory.
His path took another turn when 20th Television invited him to Los Angeles for a formal audition. The studio also hired acting coach Nancy Banks to provide two days of intensive training before his screen test. Once production began in Nashville, McVey continued receiving on-set guidance to develop his skills.
“It felt like being thrown into the fire,” McVey said. “I had to learn everything from script terminology to character development in days.”
McVey’s casting has drawn mixed responses within Hollywood. Many trained actors have expressed frustration over the opportunity given to an untested newcomer. However, the show’s producers defended their choice, emphasizing McVey’s “authentic energy” and “screen presence.”
Insiders say the studio’s investment in a novice actor—covering travel, training, and ongoing coaching—is “highly unusual” in the industry.
“He’s raw but real,” said one production member. “That’s exactly what the role needed.”
Hunter McVey’s rise underscores a broader shift in entertainment — where digital influence and social presence can open doors traditionally reserved for trained professionals. His continued engagement on Patreon and Twitch demonstrates how modern stars can bridge online and mainstream audiences.
For McVey, the goal is simple: “I just want to make the 9-1-1 audience proud.”
Production on 9-1-1: Nashville continues through early 2026, with McVey set to appear in all ten episodes of the debut season. The series will premiere on ABC next spring, expanding the popular 9-1-1 franchise.
Fans can follow McVey’s updates through his verified Instagram and Twitch channels.
