Lucy Dacus, acclaimed singer-songwriter and member of boygenius, delivered a moving rendition of Daniel Caesar’s Who Knows during her appearance on Australian radio network Triple J’s Like a Version series. Dacus explained her choice, saying the track’s “simple” yet “poetic” lyrics make it a “perfect song.” She noted that the themes of impermanence and honoring fleeting moments resonated deeply with her, connecting to ideas explored on her 2025 album Forever Is a Feeling.
A Unique Arrangement
Accompanied by string players and her drummer Ricardo, Dacus gave the cover a distinctive texture. Ricardo used paintbrushes on a paper bar menu instead of a traditional drum kit, while also adding rhythm with shakers tucked into socks. The inventive setup added intimacy and originality to the performance.
Respect for Caesar
“It’s my favorite type of love song because it’s uncertain,” Dacus said in a behind-the-scenes clip. She added with humor, “I hope [Caesar] likes it. It’d be really awkward if he didn’t.”
Touring and Future Plans
Dacus performed the cover while touring Australia as part of the Laneway Festival circuit. She will begin her North American tour in May, with shows scheduled in Washington state, Oregon, California, and Utah.
A Poignant Moment
The performance highlighted Dacus’s ability to reinterpret songs with emotional depth, blending her own artistry with Caesar’s soulful writing. Fans praised the cover for its vulnerability and creativity, further cementing her reputation as one of indie music’s most compelling voices.
