Mel Schilling, beloved host of Married at First Sight U.K. and Australia, has shared devastating news with fans. The 54-year-old TV personality revealed that her colon cancer has metastasized to her lungs and brain, and doctors have told her there is “nothing further they can do.”
From Diagnosis to Treatment
Schilling first discovered a “lemon-sized tumor” in December 2023, which was removed. Initially, she was given the all-clear. But by February 2024, small nodules appeared on her lungs, and she began 16 rounds of chemotherapy while continuing to film MAFS.
She was later approved for a groundbreaking clinical trial, but over Christmas 2025, she developed severe symptoms, including blinding headaches and numbness. Tests revealed the cancer had spread to her brain. Despite radiotherapy, her oncology team confirmed no further treatment options were available.
Mel’s Words to Fans
“My light is starting to fade — and quickly. But I am still here, still fighting, and surrounded by the most incredible love,” Schilling wrote on Instagram. She shared a family photo with her husband, Gareth Brisbane, and daughter, Madison, saying she now relies on them for daily care.
“I honestly don’t know how long I have left, but I do know I will fight to my last breath and will be surrounded by the love and support of my people,” she added. Schilling urged followers to prioritize health checks: “If something doesn’t feel right, please get it checked out. It might just save your life.”
Stepping Away From MAFS
Channel 4 confirmed Schilling will step away from her hosting duties. “We are immeasurably saddened,” the network said, adding that her friend and fellow MAFS Australia expert John Aiken will step in for the upcoming season.
A Legacy of Strength
Schilling’s openness about her journey has inspired fans worldwide. Her resilience, even in the face of terminal illness, highlights her commitment to raising awareness and encouraging others to take their health seriously.
