The Comcast and Paramount-owned streamer has officially unveiled the project as an original production, continuing its push to invest in local storytelling across the markets where it operates. While SkyShowtime has become known for carrying major U.S. titles from its parent companies, the service is increasingly leaning into regional productions to strengthen its identity in Europe.
“Morpheus” is set in Poland and follows a character-driven story about power, family legacy, and a man pulled into a life he never planned to live.
‘Morpheus’ follows a lawyer who becomes a crime boss
At the heart of the series is Piotr, a lawyer and family man whose life takes a dramatic turn after an unexpected twist of fate. Piotr ends up becoming the leader of a criminal gang that once belonged to his brother, and even earlier, to his father.
The series frames Piotr as an ordinary man thrown into extraordinary circumstances. But as events unfold, he begins to reveal instincts and leadership qualities that make him a surprisingly capable crime boss. The storyline blends family drama with criminal power struggles, positioning “Morpheus” as a tension-filled thriller that explores how quickly a “normal” life can unravel.
Cast includes Andrzej Grabowski and rising Polish stars
SkyShowtime’s “Morpheus” features a cast led by notable Polish actors. The streamer confirmed that Andrzej Grabowski will star in the series, alongside Kamil Szeptycki, Mateusz Kmiecik, and Sylwia Gola. The mix of established performers and newer faces suggests SkyShowtime is aiming for both recognition and freshness, tapping into talent that can carry a fast-moving crime narrative while grounding it in realistic emotional stakes. With Polish drama gaining more international visibility in recent years, “Morpheus” joins a rising wave of regional projects designed to travel beyond their home market.
Filming has wrapped, with release planned later this year
Production company TFP is making “Morpheus,” and SkyShowtime confirmed that filming has already wrapped. While the streamer has not announced an exact release date yet, it is expected to arrive later this year. The series is directed by Maciej Migas, based on a script by Michał Wawrzecki. The creative team signals a focus on grounded storytelling and a strong narrative foundation, which has become essential for crime dramas competing in a crowded streaming landscape.
SkyShowtime continues growing its originals pipeline through 2026
Kai Finke, SkyShowtime’s Chief Content Officer, said the streamer remains focused on building a steady pipeline of original series through 2026. He emphasized that SkyShowtime wants to expand its collaborations with top creators and add more Polish productions to the platform’s entertainment offering. His statement underlined an ambition to position SkyShowtime as a home for high-quality, engaging, and authentic storytelling for European audiences. SkyShowtime operates in territories where Paramount and Comcast do not run their own standalone SVOD platforms. Alongside original projects, the service also streams major U.S. series, including the blockbuster “Yellowstone” franchise and its spin-offs.
In Poland, SkyShowtime has already found success with local programming, including one of its major originals, “Śleboda.” A sequel series, provisionally titled “Pionek,” is also in development. The streamer has also revived cult police drama “The Cop” (Glina) after a 17-year break, showing its intent to invest in both new content and nostalgia-driven revivals. With “Morpheus,” SkyShowtime is signaling that Polish dramas remain a key part of its European strategy.
