At just nine months old, Dove was diagnosed with lambdoid craniosynostosis, a rare condition that required neurosurgery. Mellencamp shared photos of her daughter wearing a cranial helmet after the procedure in 2020, calling her resilience inspiring.
A Mother’s Reflection
In her birthday tribute, Mellencamp acknowledged missing Dove’s fifth birthday party due to her own cancer treatment. “I am still so sorry I was in the hospital and missed your 5th party; but dang you don’t know how grateful I am to be at this one,” she wrote.
Teddi’s Cancer Battle
Mellencamp has been candid about her ongoing health struggles. Diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma in 2022, she underwent 17 surgeries before revealing in April 2025 that the cancer had advanced to stage 4, spreading to her brain and lungs. Despite the grim prognosis, she now says she has “no trace of cancer” thanks to immunotherapy.
Earlier this month, she reflected on the one-year anniversary of her stage 4 diagnosis, expressing gratitude for her doctors, family, and fans. “Gratitude for the doctors and nurses who took care of me, gratitude for my family and friends for supporting me, and gratitude for all the love that you have poured into me,” she shared.
