Shabana Azeez Says Javadi’s Influencer Era Is Not Antithetical to Her Intelligence

HBO Max’s The Pitt season 2 has delivered one of its most surprising reveals yet. In the latest episode, medical student Victoria Javadi, played by Shabana Azeez, is unmasked as Dr. J — a popular medical influencer whose TikTok videos have quietly built a devoted following.

The Big Reveal

Episode four, which aired January 29, follows a patient who accidentally glued her eyelashes together. When asked who she wants to be treated by, she requests Dr. J, a mysterious online medical personality. The twist comes when Javadi is revealed to be the influencer herself, shocking both her colleagues and viewers. Dr. Frank Langdon, portrayed by Patrick Ball, introduces Javadi to the patient, played by Elysia Roorbach. The patient gushes over Javadi’s videos, praising her advice on coping with difficult coworkers. Javadi suggests the same treatment as Langdon, but the patient insists she wants the influencer to take the lead.

Azeez on Playing Javadi

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Azeez shared her excitement about the storyline. “There’s something really interesting about playing a young woman who’s in a different generation than everybody else,” she said. “Young women have such purchasing power. They build culture in a way that other demographics don’t really do, and we need to take them more seriously.”

Azeez emphasized that Javadi’s influencer identity should not be dismissed as frivolous. “She’s girly pop, but she’s also smart. Those things aren’t in opposition with each other,” she explained. “This TikTok thing is not antithetical to her intelligence. It’s a part of it.”

Breaking Old Stereotypes

The actress acknowledged that some viewers might see Javadi as “just another girl on TikTok,” but she believes the storyline challenges outdated assumptions. “That’s an old social script that I think we can do away with,” Azeez said. “It’s a way to explore medicine and these really human things she’s going through.” By blending medical training with social media influence, Javadi represents a new generation of professionals who use digital platforms to connect with audiences. Azeez hopes the character inspires viewers to see intelligence and cultural relevance as intertwined.

Streaming Now

Season 2 of The Pitt continues to explore complex storylines, weaving together medical drama with cultural commentary. New episodes stream Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO Max, with the finale scheduled for April 16. With Javadi’s influencer identity now revealed, fans can expect more exploration of how social media intersects with medicine — and how young women like Javadi are reshaping cultural narratives.
