Timothée Chalamet is opening up about a surprising — and hilarious — text message he received from friend and Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio. The Dune and Wonka star recently appeared in a fast-paced interview segment for Lucid Motors’ new campaign promoting the Lucid Air Sapphire sedan, where he joined New York Knicks players Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart for an unscripted Q&A. During the interview, Hart asked Chalamet to name the “greatest person” who had texted him unexpectedly. Without hesitation, Chalamet replied that Leonardo DiCaprio had messaged him earlier that same day.
“[DiCaprio] fried me today,” Chalamet laughed. “He said, ‘I heard they shaved your head. Say it ain’t so.’”
The room burst into laughter as Hart defended the actor’s dramatic new look, telling him, “You’re good though. You’re rocking it.”
Going Viral for His Shaved Head Reveal
Chalamet’s buzz cut first made headlines in October, when he removed a headpiece during an Instagram livestream promoting his upcoming film Marty Supreme, where he stars as eccentric professional ping-pong player Marty Mauser. Surrounded by floating orange ping pong balls inside a transparent box, he dramatically revealed the shaved head to tens of thousands of live viewers.
Before the livestream stunt, paparazzi photos had already circulated showing Chalamet filming scenes in New York City, wearing a blue cap to hide the haircut. The transformation immediately sparked debate on social media — and now fans know even Leonardo DiCaprio weighed in.
A Friendship Formed on Screen
Chalamet and DiCaprio became close while working on Adam McKay’s 2021 satire Don’t Look Up, where the two shared several scenes together. Their bond quickly grew beyond the set, and Chalamet has previously shared career advice DiCaprio once gave him. In a 2022 interview with British Vogue, Chalamet said DiCaprio told him:
“No hard drugs and no superhero movies.”
Chalamet later repeated the guidance in Time magazine but avoided naming DiCaprio at the time, joking that the actor would “kick [his] ass” if he revealed him.
‘Marty Supreme’ Lands This Christmas
Chalamet’s new film Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie, arrives in theaters on December 25. Early reviews have been extremely positive. The Independent praised Chalamet’s performance, giving the film four stars and comparing the actor’s energy to a young Al Pacino. Critic Clarisse Loughrey wrote that Chalamet delivers a performance filled with intensity and vulnerability, noting that the actor appears to see himself in the character. Chalamet has previously spoken about striving for artistic greatness, telling audiences, “I want to be one of the greats.” With award season buzz already growing, Marty Supreme may move him another step closer.
