Sequel Announcement
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk 2, the highly anticipated follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077, is now in active development. However, fans will need patience—the studio’s latest financial report makes clear that the game will not arrive before 2028, with analysts suggesting a possible release window stretching into 2029 or even 2030.
Development Leadership and Expansion
The project, codenamed Project Orion, is being spearheaded by CDPR’s Boston team, while the company’s flagship studio in Poland remains heavily involved in creative direction.
The development team has already expanded to 135 full-time staff, up from 116 in mid-2025. CDPR plans to scale the workforce significantly, targeting between 300 and 400 employees by late 2027. A major hiring campaign is expected to support this growth, underscoring the studio’s commitment to the sequel.

Technical Improvements
Unlike Cyberpunk 2077, which faced a troubled launch due to technical issues, Cyberpunk 2 will be built on Unreal Engine 5. The shift is intended to ensure smoother performance and avoid the pitfalls that plagued the original release.
What Fans Can Expect
CD Projekt Red has emphasized that Cyberpunk 2 will expand on the storytelling and reactive gameplay elements that defined the first game. Players can expect deeper immersion, more impactful choices, and long-term replayability.
While fans may be eager for a quicker turnaround, the studio insists the sequel is a major undertaking designed for longevity and depth rather than speed.
