Renée Zellweger is facing unwanted public scrutiny as a lawsuit involving her and partner Ant Anstead threatens to reveal intimate details of their private life. The Oscar-winning actress, 56, and the British TV host, 46, were sued in February 2025 by Tracey Bryn Belland, who claims she was injured at their California rental property in August 2024. According to Us Weekly, Belland alleges she tripped on a patio where “a thin rug had been placed over a hole,” resulting in a knee injury. She is seeking unspecified damages.
A Looming Trial
The negligence suit is scheduled for a jury trial in June 2026. Zellweger and Anstead, along with the landlord of the Laguna Beach property, have denied all allegations. Still, the possibility of testifying in court has left Zellweger deeply unsettled.
“Renée works so hard to keep her life private. This is her worst nightmare,” an insider told National Enquirer. “Having to possibly testify and get cross-examined on the stand — with cameras rolling and no control over any of it — is enough to send Renée into a panic attack.”
Stress on the Relationship
Friends fear the legal battle could strain the couple’s relationship. Sources say Zellweger is “horrified” at the thought of her home life being dissected in public. While Anstead reportedly feels terrible about the situation, insiders note that the stress is weighing heavily on Zellweger.
“She isn’t holding it against him, but it’s still not good for their relationship because it’s causing her so much stress,” one source explained.
Spotlight-Shy Star
Known for her reclusive lifestyle, Zellweger has long avoided the spotlight outside of her acting career. The looming trial has reportedly made her even more “housebound,” with friends worrying about the toll it is taking on her health and well-being. Despite the challenges, insiders say Anstead remains supportive, and the couple is determined to weather the storm together. Still, the case underscores how quickly private lives can become public when legal disputes arise.
