Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw has built an illustrious career as one of baseball’s greatest pitchers — but behind his success stands a lifelong partner, Ellen Kershaw. Married since December 2010, the couple’s enduring bond began in their Texas hometown, evolving from childhood friendship to a family of six, soon to be seven.
As of October 2025, they share four children — Cali Ann, Charley Clayton, Cooper Ellis, and Chance James — and are expecting their fifth, a baby girl.
From Texas Classmates to Life Partners
Ellen Melson, now Ellen Kershaw, grew up in Dallas, Texas, where she first met Clayton at Highland Park Elementary School. Their friendship blossomed into romance during high school, and though their paths diverged — Ellen attended Texas A&M University while Clayton joined the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2006 — they maintained a strong long-distance relationship.
They married on December 4, 2010, at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, marking the start of a journey that paralleled Clayton’s MLB rise. Over the years, Ellen has stood by her husband through victories, injuries, and championship seasons, balancing family life with philanthropy.
Mutual Respect and Shared Faith
Clayton Kershaw often credits Ellen for her strength and support. In a November 2022 Instagram tribute, he wrote,
“You handle the chaos with ease and make life fun. Getting older with you isn’t so bad.”
In interviews, both have acknowledged that their early distance — with Clayton in the minor leagues and Ellen in college — only strengthened their bond. “We realized life was so much better when we were together than apart,” Ellen told Risen Magazine.
Building Family and Community Through Charity
Beyond baseball, the Kershaws are known for Kershaw’s Challenge, a nonprofit they co-founded in 2011. The organization supports vulnerable children across Los Angeles, Dallas, Zambia, and the Dominican Republic, raising over $20 million to date.
Clayton has often said Ellen inspired much of the charity’s vision. “When you get a gift like being able to throw a baseball, you have to use it for something good. That’s why God gave me Ellen,” he told D Magazine.
What’s Next for the Kershaws
As the couple awaits the arrival of their fifth child in 2025, they continue to split their time between Los Angeles and Dallas, maintaining a family-first rule to see each other every seven days despite Clayton’s demanding MLB schedule.
With Kershaw’s Challenge expanding globally and another baby on the way, the Dodgers legend’s focus remains as much on home life as his baseball legacy.
