Walmart has slashed the price of the MacBook Air with M1 chip to just $549 as part of its Black Friday deals in the United States.
Price History
The retailer first offered the M1 MacBook Air for $699 in March 2024. The price later dropped to $649, then $599, and now sits at its lowest yet — $549.
Specs and Availability
The discounted model includes 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, available in Silver and Space Gray. The Gold option has already sold out. Importantly, these are brand-new units, not refurbished or open-box devices.
Background on the M1 MacBook Air
Apple originally launched the MacBook Air with the M1 chip in November 2020, marking the company’s transition from Intel processors to Apple silicon. The model was discontinued last year following the release of the M3 MacBook Air, and Apple has since updated the lineup with the M4 chip.
Before being discontinued, the M1 MacBook Air retailed for $999, though Amazon occasionally discounted it to $899.
Performance and Software Support
Despite being five years old, the M1 MacBook Air remains a capable machine for everyday tasks such as browsing, streaming, and productivity. However, it features an older design and is the oldest MacBook Air model still compatible with macOS 26 (Tahoe). There is uncertainty about whether it will support macOS 27 next year.
Why It’s a Deal
At $549, Walmart’s offer represents one of the best values for a MacBook in recent years. For budget-conscious buyers, it’s a chance to own a reliable Apple laptop at nearly half its original retail price.
