Elizabeth Olsen is set to return to television in a major new role after FX officially gave a series order to its family drama Seven Sisters, which will stream on Hulu in the United States. The order comes nine months after FX first greenlit a pilot for the project, signaling strong confidence in the series.
Internationally, the drama will stream on Disney+, expanding its reach beyond the U.S. market.
A Reunion Between Olsen and Sean Durkin
Seven Sisters marks a notable reunion between Olsen and director Sean Durkin, who previously collaborated on Olsen’s breakout film Martha Marcy May Marlene in 2011. That film established Olsen as a critically acclaimed dramatic actress, and their renewed partnership has already drawn attention within the industry.
The pilot was written by Will Arbery, with Durkin directing. Both serve as executive producers alongside Garrett Basch, whose production company Dive has a long-standing first-look deal with FX.
Story Centers on Secrets Within a Close-Knit Family
The series follows a large, tightly bonded family whose relationships are tested when long-buried secrets begin to surface. At the center of the story is Adrienne, played by Olsen, one of eight siblings.
The narrative takes a mysterious turn when Adrienne begins communicating with a voice only she can hear, forcing the family to confront uncomfortable truths and unresolved tensions. FX has described the series as an emotionally layered family drama with psychological elements.
A Strong Ensemble Cast
Joining Olsen is Cristin Milioti, who recently won a Primetime Emmy Award for her performance in The Penguin. Veteran actress J. Smith-Cameron (Murdaugh: Death in the Family) also stars in the series.
The ensemble cast includes:
Odessa Young
Meredith Hagner
Zoë Winters
Bridget Brown
Carolyn Kettig
Philip Ettinger
Ryan Eggold
Anthony Edwards
Milioti, Young, Hagner, Winters, Brown, and Kettig portray Adrienne’s sisters, while Ettinger plays the family’s brother. Eggold stars as Adrienne’s husband, and Edwards and Smith-Cameron play the siblings’ parents.
A Proven Creative Team at FX
Seven Sisters becomes Garrett Basch’s fifth series with FX. His previous work for the network includes Devs, Reservation Dogs, What We Do in the Shadows, and The Lowdown. Basch is also currently executive-producing FX’s comedy pilot Very Young Frankenstein.
With a track record of critically acclaimed and genre-defining series, the creative team brings high expectations for Seven Sisters.
Release Plans Still Pending
While the series order confirms production will move forward, FX and Hulu have not yet announced a release date or premiere window. Additional details are expected in the coming months as filming progresses.
For Olsen, the project represents a return to character-driven storytelling following years of blockbuster work. For FX and Hulu, Seven Sisters adds another prestige drama to an already strong lineup.
