Regional Mexican sensation Grupo Frontera is heading into 2026 with major recognition from the Recording Academy. The band earned two Grammy nominations, marking a milestone in their fast-rising career just three years after their debut. The Texas-based group learned of their nominations shortly after competing at the 2025 Latin Grammys, where they received nods for best regional Mexican song and a collaboration with Fuerza Regida. Although they left the ceremony without a win, members expressed gratitude for being included alongside Los Tigres del Norte, whom they consider legends of the genre.
Double Shot at the Grammys
At the upcoming Feb. 1 Grammy Awards, Grupo Frontera will compete in the best Música Mexicana album category (including Tejano) for two EPs: their collaborative project with Fuerza Regida, Mala mía, and their solo EP, Y lo que viene. The nominations represent a career-defining moment. Speaking about the recognition, vocalist and bajo quinto performer Adelaido “Payo” Solis III noted the significance of traditional Mexican regional music being elevated onto such a global stage.
“It’s something you would never think — that someone who plays our style of music would be nominated,” Payo said.
Creative Collaboration Fuels Momentum
The idea for a joint EP with Fuerza Regida came from guitarist Beto Acosta, who was inspired by the runaway success of “Bebé dame,” their smash collaboration with the group. The band drew parallels to crossover partnerships like Bad Bunny and J Balvin’s Oasis, aiming for a fusion that felt both authentic and fresh.
“Our vibes are similar,” Payo explained. “I feel that the chemistry is very cool.”
The recording took place in Los Angeles, where the band also worked on additional songs, including the collaboration “Tu favorita” with Fuerza Regida and Chilean artist Cris MJ. The track appears on their most recent album, Lo que me falta por llorar. Payo said their regional roots contributed to the musical connection: “They are from Los Angeles and we are from Texas… I feel that was a super perfect fusion.”
A Year of Musical Evolution
Since releasing Lo que me falta por llorar, Grupo Frontera has continued their rapid ascent. They recently joined Bad Bunny onstage during one of his eight Mexico City concerts, performing their hit “Un x100to.” The band followed up with the single “Beses así” featuring Calle 24 and released a video for “Se me sale,” another track from their album.
After months focused on writing and recording, the band is preparing for an international tour spanning Latin America and Europe. Stops include Bogota, Mexico City, Paris, London, Madrid, Milan, Quito, Buenos Aires and Santiago. Payo said the break from performing made them realize how much they missed being onstage. Many of their previous releases were recorded live or during soundchecks, including fan-favorite “Quédate, bebé.”
New Musical Direction
For the latest album, the band reunited with Grammy-nominated producer Edgar Barrera, but also expanded their collaborations with artists like Tito Double P, Los Dareyes de la Sierra, Ozuna and Myke Towers. The group embraced a new emotional approach as well. “Normally our lyrics are sad, but the music is happy,” Payo said. “With this album, we tried to make the sad songs actually sound sad.” With fresh sound, critical recognition and a global tour ahead, Grupo Frontera enters 2026 with momentum — and a shot at bringing home their first Grammy.
