Prime Video has unveiled the first look at its highly anticipated Tomb Raider reboot series, with Sophie Turner stepping into the iconic role of Lara Croft. The reveal has sparked excitement among fans eager to see how the Game of Thrones star will reinterpret one of gaming’s most legendary heroines.
A First Look at Turner’s Lara Croft
In the promotional image, Turner dons Croft’s signature outfit: a green tank top, black shorts, aviator shades, and dual pistols. The look pays homage to the character’s classic design while signaling a fresh take for modern audiences. Turner joins a long line of actresses who have embodied Croft, including Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s films and Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot. Hayley Atwell also voiced the character in Netflix’s animated series, which ran until 2025.

Production and Cast
The series was greenlit in 2024, with Turner’s involvement confirmed later that year. The ensemble cast includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb‑Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein. Phoebe Waller‑Bridge, the Emmy‑ and Golden Globe‑winning writer and actress, serves as creator, writer, and executive producer. Her involvement has heightened expectations, given her reputation for sharp storytelling and character‑driven narratives.
Lara Croft’s Enduring Legacy
Since debuting in 1996, Lara Croft has become a cultural icon, inspiring multiple timelines of video games, films, and animated adaptations. The franchise continues to expand, with two new games — Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst — slated for release in 2026 and 2027. Turner’s casting represents a new era for Croft, blending the character’s adventurous spirit with a contemporary edge.
Turner’s Preparation
Turner has been candid about the intense training required for the role. Speaking on The Julia Cunningham Show, she revealed she has undergone eight hours of training daily, five days a week, since early 2025.
“I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realized that it’s much easier to build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had,” she said. “It has taken me months and months to get into good shape.”
Her dedication underscores the physical demands of portraying Croft, a character known for her agility, strength, and resilience.
Excitement Builds
Turner expressed her enthusiasm in a statement shared on Instagram: “I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft. She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got.” With Waller‑Bridge at the helm and Turner leading the cast, Prime Video’s Tomb Raider reboot is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated series of 2026.
