Luke Cage’s Absence and Possible Return
For years, fans of Marvel’s Netflix-era heroes have wondered if Luke Cage would ever rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Daredevil and Jessica Jones have already resurfaced in Disney+ projects, the Hero of Harlem has remained absent since Luke Cage Season 2 ended in 2018.
Now, actor Mike Colter has given fans reason to be optimistic. Appearing on the podcast On That Note, hosted by Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men, Colter admitted that while he previously offered “no hope,” he now believes there’s a chance.
“I was giving no one hope before, [but now] I am giving hope at least,” Colter said. “I’ve had conversations, and I’ll leave it at that.”
Colter Reflects on the Role
Colter acknowledged that he had moved on from Marvel projects in recent years, focusing on other work. But with Daredevil and Jessica Jones returning, he feels there’s “unfinished business” with Luke Cage.
“It’s been years now, so I’m doing other projects,” Colter explained. “But now, I think to myself, ‘I have some unfinished business there.’ Daredevil’s back, Jessica’s back… so come on.”
No Official Confirmation Yet
Despite Colter’s encouraging comments, Marvel has not announced any plans for Luke Cage’s return. The actor was careful not to over-promise, noting that while conversations have taken place, nothing is finalized.
“I’d say we’re in a better position to come into fruition faster than we think, so we’ll see,” Colter said.
Iron Fist’s Future Remains Uncertain
While Colter’s remarks sparked excitement, the same cannot be said for The Defenders’ fourth member, Iron Fist. Actor Finn Jones has acknowledged criticism of his portrayal and expressed interest in returning, but Marvel has shown little indication of reviving the character.
A new version of Iron Fist did appear in Marvel’s animated Eyes of Wakanda series, voiced by Jona Xiao, suggesting the mantle may continue in other forms.
Why It Matters
The revival of Netflix’s Marvel heroes has been a major talking point for fans, with Daredevil’s reintroduction in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Daredevil: Born Again proving that Marvel is willing to revisit these characters. Luke Cage’s potential return would further expand the MCU’s street-level roster, bringing back a fan-favorite hero who represents Harlem’s resilience and strength.
What Happens Next?
For now, Luke Cage’s future remains uncertain. With Marvel continuing to expand its Disney+ slate and explore darker, street-level stories, Colter’s comments suggest the door is open. Fans will be watching closely to see if the Hero of Harlem finally makes his long-awaited comeback.
