Rebecca Gayheart has expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received following the death of her husband, actor Eric Dane. Dane, beloved for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy, died last week at the age of 53 after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was diagnosed with the condition in April 2025.
Emotional Instagram Tribute
On Sunday, Gayheart returned to Instagram with a heartfelt post. She shared framed family photos surrounded by candles, writing: “I am so blown away by the outpouring of love and support from our community. There aren’t words to express our gratitude. You are truly holding us up during this difficult time.”
Family Bonds
Gayheart and Dane married in 2004 and share two daughters, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 14. Although Gayheart filed for divorce in 2018, she dismissed the petition in March 2025 after Dane’s diagnosis, choosing to remain by his side.
Tributes from Friends
Over the weekend, Gayheart posted throwback photos of Dane with their children and shared tributes from friends. Kimberly Van Der Beek, widow of actor James Van Der Beek, remembered Dane warmly: “RIP @realericdane. We love you @rebeccagayheartdane. Will miss our guys laughing at Christmas parties together.”
Grey’s Anatomy Cast Remembers
Former co-stars also honored Dane. Chyler Leigh, who played Dr. Lexie Grey, described him as “a deeply intelligent man” and “an amazing father who loved his girls fiercely.” Katherine Heigl called his passing a “tragic loss,” adding, “I will forever be grateful I got to bask in it for even a brief moment in time.”
A Legacy of Strength
Dane’s death comes just weeks after James Van Der Beek’s passing, deepening Hollywood’s grief. Yet Gayheart’s words highlight the strength she draws from her community as she and her daughters navigate this difficult chapter.
