Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer have shared more than just screen time over the past two decades—they’ve built a friendship that has carried them through life’s ups and downs. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Garner reflected on her bond with Greer as the two reunite for Season 2 of Apple TV’s The Last Thing He Told Me. Garner, who stars in and executive produces the series, said she was thrilled to bring Greer into the cast.
A Friendship That Endures
The pair first worked together in the beloved 2004 romcom 13 Going on 30. Since then, they’ve reunited on multiple projects, but Garner emphasized that their connection goes far beyond work.
“We bring not just this work experience from 20-some years ago, but we also bring 20-plus years of friendship,” Garner shared. “She’s carried me through things. I’ve carried her. And I think all of that came into play.”
Greer echoed the sentiment, joking that while they’ve played characters at odds on screen, their real-life friendship is the opposite. “It’s the best to get paid to hang out with your friend,” she said.
Working Together Again
Greer admitted joining the cast felt like “marrying into the coolest, nicest, most welcoming family you could ever imagine.” Garner noted that many crew members had also worked with her since Alias and 13 Going on 30, making the reunion even more special.
Greer even reunited with her longtime makeup artist, Cindy Williams, who worked with her on 13 Going on 30. “She told me I look the same,” Greer laughed. “But she gets paid to say that.”
Respect and Admiration
Garner praised Greer as “a formidable actress” and said she wanted to give her strong material to work with. “We take our jobs more seriously now than we did when we were younger,” Garner explained. “I really wanted to show up and give her something to work opposite.”
Greer added that their friendship sometimes required distance during filming. “There were times where we had to stay away from each other, especially with dramatic scenes,” she said. “I’d be like, ‘Stay away. You are a stone. You are a ghost.’”
Looking Ahead
With The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 streaming on Apple TV, fans can look forward to seeing Garner and Greer’s chemistry play out once again—this time in a gripping thriller rather than a romantic comedy. Their decades-long friendship continues to shine, proving that some Hollywood bonds truly stand the test of time.
