One Piece Spoilers: Bonney’s Nika Transformation and Its Limits

Updated :  Tuesday, November 25, 2025 12:19 AM

One Piece continues to surprise fans with new twists, and the latest revelation has introduced a second Nika form. While Monkey D. Luffy’s Gear 5 has already shaken the foundations of the world, Jewelry Bonney has now taken on her own version of Nika, affectionately nicknamed “Joy Girl” by fans.

Who Is Joy Girl in One Piece?

In the climax of the Egghead arc, Bonney transformed into Nika and fought alongside Luffy against St. Saturn. The name “Joy Girl” isn’t official from Eiichiro Oda but rather a fan-created nickname for Bonney’s Nika form.

It’s important not to confuse Joy Girl with Joy Boy, the legendary figure from the Void Century. Bonney’s transformation is unique to her powers and represents her freest self, inspired by Luffy’s example.

How Did Bonney Become Nika?

Bonney possesses the Toshi Toshi no Mi (Age-Age Fruit), which allows her to manipulate age. However, her Devil Fruit also grants the powerful ability known as Distortion Future. This lets her access alternate future forms she imagines.

By envisioning a Nika-like future, Bonney was able to replicate Luffy’s abilities temporarily. With encouragement from Luffy, she embraced her freest version and transformed into Joy Girl, joining him in battle against the World Government’s forces.

When Does Bonney Become Joy Girl?

Bonney’s Joy Girl debut occurs in One Piece manga chapter 1118. The anime adaptation is expected to showcase this transformation in Episode 1151, titled “The Dream I Envisioned With Dad! Bonney’s Free Future.” The episode is scheduled to air on November 30, 2025, following a recap on November 23.

Limitations of Joy Girl Form

While Bonney’s Nika transformation is visually stunning, it comes with serious drawbacks. She cannot maintain alternate future forms for long, and the Joy Girl state drains her energy more than any other transformation. After aiding Luffy and delivering a powerful Nika Punch against St. Saturn, she reverted to her normal child form.

Why Joy Girl Matters

Bonney’s transformation highlights her growth as a character and deepens the lore of Nika. It shows that the concept of freedom, embodied by Luffy’s Gear 5, can inspire others to unlock their own potential. Joy Girl adds emotional weight to the Egghead arc and expands the mythology of One Piece.
