Hollywood’s annual Razzie Awards, the tongue‑in‑cheek ceremony that “honors” the worst in cinema, crowned War of the Worlds as its big loser this year. The Prime Video remake, starring Ice Cube, took home five trophies, including Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Remake.
A Cult Hate-Watch
The film, directed by Rich Lee, reimagined H.G. Wells’ classic novel with a gimmick: Ice Cube battles an alien invasion entirely from his desk, seen only through his computer screen and webcam. Critics panned the concept, but audiences quickly embraced it as a “hate-watch classic.” The Razzies described it as “utterly destroying HG Wells’ novel” with “hack dialogue” and a “hilarious performance” from its lead.
Other Notable “Winners”
Rebel Wilson earned Worst Actress for her role in Bride Hard, where she wielded weaponized curling irons as an unlikely action hero. Scarlet Rose Stallone, daughter of Sylvester Stallone, was named Worst Supporting Actress for her performance in Gunslingers. Disney’s 2025 Snow White remake also took a beating. Its seven computer-generated dwarfs collectively won Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Screen Combo.
A Redeemer Among the Razzie Regulars
Not all the news was bad. Kate Hudson received the Razzie Redeemer Award, given to past nominees who turn their careers around. Hudson, once criticized for roles in Music, Mother’s Day, and My Best Friend’s Girl, is now earning acclaim with an Oscar nomination for Song Sung Blue.
